Vanadium Redox Flow Battery

The Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) is an innovative energy storage technology that utilizes the chemical properties of vanadium to store and release electrical energy. It consists of two tanks containing vanadium electrolyte solutions with different oxidation states. During charging, the electrolytes are pumped through a cell stack, where the vanadium ions undergo a reversible oxidation-reduction reaction, storing energy in the form of chemical potential. When energy is needed, the electrolytes are circulated back through the cell stack, releasing stored energy as electricity. VRFBs offer several advantages, including high efficiency, long cycle life, scalability, and the ability to decouple power and energy capacities.
